The Algorithm Gave You What It Wanted You To Want
Notes from Val (003)
I was scrolling through a report last week. Not looking for anything in particular. Just following a link someone sent in a group chat. The report was about culture and technology. More specifically, it was about who people trust to tell them what is worth paying attention to. The number that stopped me was this: 85% of cultural early adopters now say they trust human recommendations over algorithmic ones. I sat with that for a while. Because that is not a preference. That is a rejection. And once I saw it that way, I could not stop thinking about it.
